Workshop on Participatory Visual Methods in Lausanne

Over the past few days, Lausanne has been the setting for an intense and inspiring immersion in Participatory Visual Methods, participatory cinema, and creative tools for collaborative research in social sciences. Co-organized by Visual Exchange, in partnership with Le Collaboratoire of UNIL and HETS Fribourg, this training workshop brought together a dynamic cohort of researchers, practitioners, and engaged students.

A huge thank you to our partners Laetitia Della Bianca, Alain Kaufmann, Beatrice Vatron-Steiner, and Michela Villani for their dedication and expertise, as well as to the participants whose enthusiasm, curiosity, and insightful discussions enriched every day of this training.

A collective learning experience fueled by creativity and exchange

Throughout the workshop, the collective energy fostered deep discussions and hands-on experimentation with the visual and participatory tools we teach. Between theoretical reflections, practical exercises, and experience sharing, each session reinforced our belief in the crucial role of creative methods in action research and social engagement.

We also had the privilege of welcoming one of our alumni and collaborator in Senegal, Amina Niang, president of the Écran du Fleuve film collective in Saint-Louis, Senegal, and filmmaker, who actively participated in the workshops and documented every step of this journey with sensitivity and talent.

A closing… and new perspectives ahead!

While this workshop is coming to an end, it marks the beginning of new collaborations and opportunities! Visual Exchange continues to develop and offer training programs to support researchers, professionals, and field actors in integrating visual and participatory methods into their projects.
